Building Tomorrow, Honouring Yesterday: Mana Ahuriri's Housing Vision

Nau mai, haere mai – Welcome to our housing journey

Mana Ahuriri Trust stands as the Post Settlement Governance Entity for the Ahuriri Hapū, established to receive and manage the assets from our Treaty settlement. But our mission extends beyond guardianship of settlement assets. We are dedicated to supporting the cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of Ahuriri hapū, preserving our heritage, upholding kaitiakitanga, and fostering sustainable growth for future generations.

Our journey began with an understanding that housing is not just about shelter—it’s about creating spaces where our people can thrive, where whānau can grow strong, and where our cultural values can flourish. Through our subsidiary, Mana Ahuriri Holdings Limited, we’ve embarked on a transformative journey to create sustainable housing solutions that nurture whānau growth and strengthen our communities. Our development programme, enabled by our Treaty Settlement, represents an investment in our people’s future—creating homes where mokopuna can flourish, spaces that support intergenerational living, and developments that enhance the mauri of our rohe for generations to come.

Our Vision: More Than Just Buildings

We’ve embraced a commitment to building communities, not just houses. Every development we undertake reflects our values of manaakitanga (hospitality), Kotahitanga (unity), and sustainable development. We’re creating homes that honour our tīpuna while meeting the needs of today’s whānau.

Our housing strategy addresses one of New Zealand’s most pressing challenges—the shortage of quality, affordable homes—while ensuring that development serves our people and respects our whenua. Through strategic partnerships, we’re pioneering innovative approaches that combine commercial success with meaningful social impact.

Strategic Partnerships: Strength Through Collaboration

Understanding that our vision requires expertise across multiple disciplines, we’ve forged partnerships with organizations that share our commitment to impactful development.

Ka Uruora addresses the foundational elements of housing access through their iwi-led response to the housing crisis. Their tailored education and navigation support programmes, delivered by local iwi facilitators, empower whānau on their journey to home ownership while building financial independence. Through tools like WhānauSaver and collaborative partnerships with service providers, Ka Uruora creates pathways for whānau to access quality kainga and achieve improved wellbeing.

These partnerships represent more than business relationships—they’re alliances built on shared values and complementary strengths, enabling us to tackle complex housing challenges with confidence and cultural authenticity. For local contractors, these partnerships also create significant opportunities to be part of major developments that contribute meaningfully to our region’s growth.

A Portfolio of Possibilities

Our housing programme encompasses multiple developments across different sectors and price points, ensuring we can serve diverse needs within our community. From affordable housing for young whānau starting their homeownership journey, to premium developments that demonstrate the heights our people can achieve, each project contributes to a comprehensive vision of community development.

Some developments focus on innovative housing solutions that address affordability challenges, while others explore sustainable building practices that respect our environmental responsibilities as kaitiaki. All are designed with input from our community, ensuring they meet real needs and reflect our shared aspirations.

For local contractors, tradespeople, and service providers, our expanding portfolio represents substantial opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects that will shape our region’s future. We’re committed to working with local talent wherever possible, recognizing that community development works best when it draws on local knowledge, skills, and commitment to place.

Looking Forward: The Pukemokimoki Story

As we embark on this housing journey, our first major residential development, Pukemokimoki on Owen Street, represents both our commitment and our capabilities. This project embodies everything we stand for: quality development that honours our heritage, creates lasting value for our community, and demonstrates what’s possible when vision meets action.

The story of Pukemokimoki is more than a development update—it’s testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with shared purpose, backed by strong governance, strategic partnerships, and unwavering commitment to our people’s future.

Each home we create is a foundation for whānau aspirations, a space where mokopuna can grow, and a contribution to the thriving, sustainable future we’re building together.
