Kaitātari Taiao - Wai
Mana Ahuriri Trust is looking for an organised and energetic whānau who has a passion for the wellbeing of our people and our Taiao, to be part of our Taiao Team in this exciting new role. This role will help grow Mana Ahuriri’s ability to assert Rangatiratanga of our takiwā, through developing and initiating a takiwā-wide water monitoring system that supports mana whenua to lead environmental monitoring within the takiwā and make the best decisions when concerning Wai, building on a foundation of Mātauranga Māori within our Taiao. This whānau must be able to utilise their analytical and logistical talent to support the Pou Taiao and Te Taiao Komiti for the benefit of Mana Ahuriri, and be able to communicate effectively with our whānau, hapū and hapori.
This is a new position to help Mana Ahuriri Trust grow its obligations and responsiveness to improving the state of our Wai through comprehensive monitoring. The role will work closely with whānau and hapū as well as our Treaty partners and those people involved in mana whenua engagement.
Key activities you will be involved in, include:
- Working with our marae and hapū to ascertain what support they need in terms of exercising their Rangatiratanga and Mana Motuhake over Wai in the Mana Ahuriri takiwā.
- Engaging with key staff in local and regional councils to develop and implement processes for data and resource sharing.
- Engaging with relevant environment authorities and specialists regarding freshwater issues affecting Ahuriri and Te Whanganui a Orotū including those relevant to legislative reforms and statutory requirements.
- Providing technical advice and support on Taiao and Wai related resource consents and Mana Ahuriri projects.
- Working alongside schools and community groups to help them connect to our marae and hapū, and collectively contribute towards a better future.
- Contributing to building our organisational knowledge, capacity, and capability in the Te Mana o te Wai space.
- Supporting Mana Whenua to revitalise the Mauri of our Wai.
- Seeking opportunities for hapū involvement in Wai and Taiao projects in the takiwā.
- Input into the communications and reporting on all Wai-related Taiao matters.
- Collaborating with the team and wider networks to plan and develop new and innovative ways to engage and interact with our whānau.
- Participate in Mana Ahuriri initiatives and events as required.
About you
- Are committed to Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Kawa and Te Reo Māori.
- Understanding of the environmental, economic, social and cultural issues facing Māori and Mana Ahuriri and committed to realising Mana Ahuriri’s aspirations in these spaces.
- Can lead and be part of projects; and develop strong relationships with Te Tiriti partners and across a wide range of stakeholders.
- A tertiary qualification and experience in environmental monitoring, education and working with data.
- The ability to interact effectively within Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Pākehā.
- A current, clean driver’s licence
- A strong ability to manage, analyse and communicate data appropriately to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work in Ahuriri
This is a 1.0 FTE in a 2-year fixed term arrangement.
